  • 1 cup salted butter, softened

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2.5 cup powdered sugar, divided

How to Make the Soft Sugar Cookies

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar for about 2 minutes, until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs and mix until incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Next, add the baking powder and mix well.
  • Gradually add the flour, mixing slowly until everything is fully combined and a soft dough forms.
  • Using a small cookie scoop (about 1 tablespoon in size), scoop small portions of dough onto a lined baking sheet, leaving a little space between each cookie.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the cookies are set and the bottoms are lightly golden.
  • Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

How to Make Chocolate Fudge Icing

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and cocoa powder until smooth.
  • Add the vanilla extract and mix.
  • Next, add 1 cup of powdered sugar and mix until combined.
  • Pour in the milk and mix again.
  • Finally, add the remaining 1½ cups of powdered sugar and continue mixing until the frosting is smooth. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.

Decorating the Cookies

  • Once the cookies have completely cooled, frost them using a piping bag for a decorative finish or simply spread the icing on with a butter knife.
  • Allow the frosting to set slightly before serving.
